Get the Look and Get to Know: Supriya Lele

We all remember frantically flipping through the pages of our Cosmopolitan magazines to the ‘Style Steal’ or ‘Get the Look’ section growing up! This blog post will introduce womenswear designer Supriya Lele and ways to be inspired by her fashion week looks on a budget. Come with me to pull together outfits that emulate her style and collections!

Influencing the womenswear fashion scene with an ode to femininity, strength and heritage, Supriya Lele is a British Indian fashion designer who inspired me with her latest collection at London Fashion Week earlier this year. Lele’s collection was vibrant and feminine through delicate cut-outs and sheer textures that remained elegant and powerful. Her designs aim to make women feel empowered and are inspired by the belief that wearing clothes that make you feel comfortable will make you feel the most confident.

Get the Look

To help you get the look I’ve taken inspiration from her fashion week and recent collections to find pieces that honour her unique designs!

  1. Halter necklines and cut-out front tops. These baby blue and turquoise halter neck tops from Monki echo a similar style to Lele’s tops.

  2. Tie-up detailing and cut-out necklines are essential details for re-creating Lele’s looks. This cropped top is from Weekday and the keyhole cut-out and ruched detail reminds me of Lele's designs.

  3. This crochet sheer dress from Weekday reflects her latest collection moving into Spring and Summer.

Coming of age during the late 90’s and early 2000’s, Lele’s designs honour the playful silhouettes and fashion statements made by famous pop-culture icons such as Britany Spears and Christina Aguilera. Including traditional Indian details, her designs reflect her Indian culture through patterns and drapes reminiscent of Indian garments.

I hope this post has inspired you to have fun creating looks and searching for styles that are reminiscent of your favourite designers. After all, Fashion Weeks are some of the most influential times of the year for creators and lovers of fashion to be inspired!
