Everyday sustainability- A day in my life

A common misconception surrounding sustainability is the fact that it can be tedious, expensive, or difficult to curate a sustainable lifestyle. Within this post I will share some sustainable choices and swaps I’ve made in my daily routine that can inspire you to make small changes and see how they work for you!

Beauty and Skincare

Shifting my cosmetic collection to cruelty-free products is an on-going process of discovering new brands and products. From animal testing to wasteful plastic packaging, the cosmetic industry is one that lacks sustainability.

Within my daily routine I have favoured products that work well for me as well as being cruelty-free. Aveda is a cruelty-free hair care brand that specialises in creating products derived from nature. Alongside responsible packaging, Aveda’s ‘Full Circle Take-back Programme’ allows Aveda empties to be fully recycled through a store or salon.

Glossier is a cruelty-free brand that has kept this motive throughout the years as they make more of their products vegan. My personal favourites from the brand include stretch concealer, lash slick mascara, and halo scope highlighter.

Using re-usable cotton pads are soft on the skin and are perfect for removing makeup. They come with a drawstring bag which you can put directly into the wash once all of the rounds are used and they come out fresh and clean every time!

My favourite sustainable shower swap is my exfoliating skin sponge made out of recycled plastic bottles from The Body Shop as it lathers body wash well whilst gently exfoliating the skin.

Accessories

Food shopping as a university student is a frequent activity. Fabric bags are perfect for picking up loose produce and food in general and their versatility makes them a great accessory that can be used for many different things.

Investing in a reusable water bottle is one of the most common sustainable swaps. Reusable bottles come in glass, metal, or recycled plastic so there’s lots to choose from! Linked here is my favourite affordable re-usable water bottle.

Fashion Sustainability

From second-hand shopping to limiting how much you buy, there are many ways to curate a sustainable routine for your wardrobe. Clothing swaps are something I love to do with friends to encourage more use out of old items that need more attention. This process is not only exciting but is beneficial for the environment as it gives clothes a new life.

I hope this post inspires you to reflect on the sustainable elements of your daily routine and consider any possible swaps that would benefit you and the environment!
