Budget Friendly SS22 trends
Fashion and its trend driven nature, paired with the cheap offerings of fast fashion, make it hard to sustainably recreate runway looks on a budget. However, there are some methods out there that consciously create a seasonal staple wardrobe that make you less guilty for buying new fast fashion but still remain fashionable.
Trend: Bright and Beautiful.
Summer is always a colourful season, and with dresses like this Molly Goddard number, how could we resist! At £1'100 this is a bit over our budgets, so why not try some home remedies to change some of the items you already own.
A quick and cheap way of revamping your current wardrobe on a budget is to dye clothing into a more seasonal colour or just to completely change the look of it One method I have used is the DYLON machine wash dye which is super easy and well within a student budget. This could update any cotton or poly-based material, with an easy to use guide on their website.
Trend: Short and Sweet
We've all seen the social media famous Miu Miu sets, but how do we afford them on a student budget? One idea I had was to go charity shopping and purchase an oversized pair of trousers in a similar fabric and cut off the legs. Sounded a bit crazy when I first thought of it, but I might be giving It a go this weekend! In the world of up-cycling I really believe that there are no limits to the possibilities and, as well as saving you money, this would save garments from waste and re-home an otherwise perfect garment, whilst helping out charities - a real win-win for everyones wallet.
Trend: Summer Neutrals
Everybody needs some summer staples to carry them between seasons and offer layering or holiday, I loved this one from Loewe, but I refuse to pay that much for a glorified vest top! Therefore I opted for a cheaper one from a more sustainable brand, which actually I plan on embroidering myself. Embroidery is such an easy and enjoyable way of adding personal touches to your garments, and also is a skill that is transferable and can make your garments stand out from others- particularly when they are plain like these.
this gorgeous alternative staple from ARKET is only £15 and is made from 94% organic cotton, which is a much cheaper alternative to such a multi-season layer.
Trend: Leather
If leather is your vibe this summer as a quick easy day-to-night transitional piece, why not go not he hunt for a vintage jacket. These are easy to find on sites like vented, depose and eBay, and are often in a good vintage condition - therefore looking well aged and much nicer in my opinion. Fast fashion always makes faux leather dupes, which can be good for those that do not wish to use animal bi-products, however shopping second hand or vintage leather can be beneficial in producing zero poly-based materials in production as they have already been made, and, prevents textile waste and landfill. moreover, these jackets have so many nice vintage features, from when the quality of clothing was much higher.
an alternative to this Prada biker jacket would set you back only £35, which is a much more worthy investment, it is a true vintage off eBay and has a really nice faded quality, giving it much more character than a brand new one.
In a consumerism-hungry generation it is really difficult not to buy new things or be financially conscious whilst also being sustainable, especially when social media often blind-sides us with influencers wearing the latest garments fresh off the runway. However, with some of these tips and tricks, your wardrobe will be feeling a bit fresher, but with not too much going out of the bank! is there any of these shopping hacks that you already use for your wardrobe?
